Upgrade

Overview

Upwind publishes new versions of the aws-ecs-runtime module with bug fixes, security enhancements, and new components. To see what changed in each version, read the release notes.

Upgrade the module

  1. Go to the directory of your Terraform project.

    cd /path/to/my-terraform-project
  2. Find the module block that uses aws-ecs-runtime and change the version in the source URL. The current version is 1.5.1.

    module "upwind_ecs_runtime" {
    source = "https://get.upwind.io/terraform/modules/aws-ecs-runtime/aws-ecs-runtime-[OLD].tar.gz"
    source = "https://get.upwind.io/terraform/modules/aws-ecs-runtime/aws-ecs-runtime-[NEW].tar.gz"
    }

    If you use the iam submodule for pre-created IAM roles, change the version in its source URL too. Use the same version for both.

  3. Download the new module version.

    terraform init -upgrade
  4. Review the planned changes.

    terraform plan
  5. Apply the changes.

    terraform apply

Terraform updates the cluster manager, the sensor, and the other module resources in place. ECS replaces the running tasks with the new versions.

Test connectivity

Run the checks in Test connectivity to confirm the cluster manager is healthy.

Troubleshooting

If the upgrade fails or tasks do not start, see Troubleshooting.
